Ace Combat 8 Async Compute: missing option, supported GPUs and on/off checks

Steam/Windows · Announced October 20 for the October 23 update · No GPU compatibility list or measured FPS recommendation

YOUR FIRST MOVE

The publisher schedules an Async Compute on/off option under SYSTEM for Steam in update 1.01.002, planned for October 23. It is selectable only on GPUs that support asynchronous computation; unsupported hardware shows a grayed option. A missing option on an older client is different from an unsupported-GPU restriction.

Missing, disabled or available?

  • Not installed yet: check your game version first. The announcement is not proof the update has reached your installation.
  • Visible but grayed out: the publisher identifies unsupported asynchronous computation as the restriction. It does not provide a complete model-by-model GPU list.
  • Available: use the normal SYSTEM option once your client includes it. Do not substitute an undocumented console command or configuration-file edit.

The notice names Steam for this setting. It does not establish an equivalent PS5 or Xbox switch.

Compare one setting, in one repeatable scene

The following is a comparison method, not a benchmark performed by this site. There is no verified universal “always on” or “always off” recommendation in the checked notice.

  1. Note resolution, graphics preset, frame cap and the current Async Compute state.
  2. Use the same mission segment or cinematic and keep those other settings unchanged.
  3. Compare smoothness and any reproducible hitch or crash with the opposite state. Record the GPU, driver and game version alongside the result.
  4. Keep the setting that behaves more consistently on your setup. If neither helps, restore the initial state and investigate the original symptom.

Do not describe an ordinary run-to-run difference as a measured gain. A performance comparison needs the same workload and conditions.

Choose the next check by the actual symptom

For a repeatable cinematic hitch, use the texture-setting comparison. For installation suitability, use the published PC requirements. These address different tasks; the new switch is not a promised cure for every crash.

If a supported-looking setup still has a disabled switch after updating, send the platform, version, GPU and a screenshot of the actual setting to support. The checked source does not establish a safe bypass or guarantee that a driver change unlocks it.
