Cutscene stutter on PC: try High textures instead of Ultra

PC · Ryzen 9 9950X3D / RTX 5090 / 64GB source case · No controlled benchmark or verified general texture bug

YOUR FIRST MOVE

If normal flight is smooth but first-person cinematics stutter, try changing textures from Ultra to High and replay the same scene. One player reports that this solved their issue; two replies report smooth Ultra playback, so Ultra is not proven universally broken.

Change one setting and compare the same scene

Jangowuzhere’s original report describes smooth gameplay with stuttering first-person scenes, made especially visible when zooming. Lowering textures from Ultra to High reportedly removed the problem on their system.

  1. Note your current texture setting, resolution, upscaling choice and other graphics options.
  2. Choose a scene where the stutter is repeatable.
  3. Change only textures from Ultra to High.
  4. Replay the scene and compare the same camera or zoom action.
  5. If the difference is not useful, restore the earlier texture setting before testing another variable.

This is a reversible comparison around a player report. We have not measured frame times or visual differences ourselves.

Why this is a conditional workaround

Thanathos says their similar setup has no stutter. Mall Ninja reports smooth Ultra textures on a 5700X3D, RTX 4070 Super, 64GB and NVMe storage. Those replies challenge the idea that the setting is broken on every PC.

The useful question is whether the change improves your same scene. A successful comparison does not diagnose a memory leak, shader compiler defect or driver failure. A texture reduction also does not establish the best overall graphics preset.

If flight also stutters or the game crashes

Record whether the symptom begins immediately, grows during a long session, or occurs only on a particular cinematic. Keep crash errors separate from frame pacing. Check the GPU features, RAM and SSD requirements before assuming this single setting explains a broader problem.

If High makes the scene better, keep the successful setting and note your build for a future patch comparison. If neither texture option helps, include that result in a support report; avoid describing an untested universal Ultra fix.
