One LCD Deck player reached campaign flight using SteamOS 3.8.82 Stable, Proton Experimental, 4GB UMA and a CryoUtilities configuration including 16GB swap. They report 17–30fps, not locked 30. This is a specific community case, not a supported or proven universal Deck fix.

What worked, and what failed, in this case
PCFF’s original post says the menu loaded but entering Campaign crashed. In their comparison, 4GB UMA alone still failed. Campaign became playable only after the combined memory configuration and Proton Experimental setup. CryoUtilities’ recommended profile changes more than swap, so the report does not isolate “16GB swap fixes AC8.”
A 16GB swap file also uses about 16GB of storage. Swap is not additional physical RAM. The author reports roughly 17–30fps and larger drops near terrain or first-person scenes. A loading success is different from a stable handheld frame-rate target.
Start with the smallest comparison you can reverse
- Record LCD or OLED, SteamOS version, free storage, current Proton and the exact loading point.
- Save the current compatibility choice. In Steam’s game Properties → Compatibility, select Proton Experimental if you want to compare that part of the reported setup.
- Test the same campaign loading point once, and note whether you reach actual flight.
- If it still fails, do not assume the remaining memory changes are independently proven. Review the full original report and the current compatibility of any utility before deciding to change BIOS or system memory settings.
We have not validated current CryoUtilities installation, its profile on newer SteamOS, or an OLED equivalent. This guide therefore does not supply copy-and-paste system commands or claim that a BIOS change alone will work.
Stop repeated environment changes on an activation error
The player also hit a temporary CodeFusion/Denuvo activation error after repeatedly changing environments. Keep that error separate from campaign loading. The current Steam listing discloses a five-system daily activation limit; it does not give a verified waiting duration for this player’s configuration.
If an activation error appears, stop switching Proton and system settings and follow the displayed activation/support instructions. Bypassing DRM or anti-cheat is not a troubleshooting step in this guide.
Unsupported does not erase a limited player success
SteamDB’s compatibility metadata currently records Unsupported for Deck and SteamOS, from a September 30 test. The community success report does not change that status, and status alone does not prove the report is false.
Later replies include a newer SteamOS user unable to make the same swap changes and a different partial campaign success that still crashes later. Treat hardware, OS and failure point as essential context. For a Windows PC, start with the official requirements rather than this Deck configuration.
