Two special weapons in Ace Combat 8: slots, ammunition and wingmen

YOUR FIRST MOVE

The community FAQ describes one special weapon using the available hardpoints; adding a different second weapon splits them and reduces each weapon’s ammunition. Selecting NO WEAPON for the second keeps a single-weapon setup. Wingman special weapons are determined by their aircraft rather than independently selected like yours.

One job or two?

The referenced FAQ describes the ammunition tradeoff and says selecting the same special weapon twice is not an option. Check the actual payload numbers in preparation before committing to both slots.

If one weapon answers the whole mission, retaining capacity may be more useful than adding a second choice you never fire. If the mission mixes target types or has an evasive final phase, a second weapon may give you coverage at the cost of endurance. That is a loadout decision, not a universal two-slot advantage.

Compare the displayed payload

  1. Select the aircraft and inspect its first special weapon.
  2. Note the ammunition shown with no second weapon.
  3. Compare a different second weapon and read both displayed counts.
  4. Assign each weapon a purpose in the mission before accepting the split.
  5. Plan resupply where the mission allows it instead of assuming the initial stock lasts forever.

For Mission 28, reports reserve different weapons for bombers and Shadows. For Mission 8, ammunition planning matters to protecting allies. The exact split is aircraft and weapon dependent; no universal numerical ratio is claimed.

Player slots are not wingman slots

Giving a crew pilot an aircraft does not establish an independent choice of their special weapon. The FAQ describes those weapons as defined by the aircraft. Inspect the crew display before planning a particular support action.

Use campaign squad purchases for ownership and wingman setup for the post-story arrangement. Online weapon slots and upgrades have their own progression; do not import a campaign setup as an Online unlock rule.
